The Chinstrap Jawfish (Opistognathus sp.) is peaceful, small 10cm marine fish. Native to areas like Indonesia and the Philippines, they require a 30+ gallon tank with at least 3-4 inches of substrate, ample rubble for burrowing, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent escape.
They are solitary, territorial burrowers that often stand upright in their dens, making them excellent, entertaining candidates for reef-safe aquariums.They need a deep sand bed (at least 3-4 inches) mixed with rubble, shells, and small stones to construct their homes. Generally peaceful, but they can be aggressive toward other jawfish, so it is recommended to keep them singly or as a mated pair unless the tank is very large.
