Purple Reef Lobster, Enoplometopus debelius
Purple Reef Lobster, Enoplometopus debelius
The Debelius Reef Lobster, is a uniquely-colored and extremely hardy aquarium addition. The purple and orange color reef inhabitant though shy initially, is a highly effective scavenger that will feed on most any food. The body and claws of the Purple Lobster, as with other members of the genus are covered with sensory filaments that give it a "hairy" appearance. Preferred to other lobsters because of its small 5" maximum full grown size is reef safe, as it will typically not bother any other aquarium inhabitants. All lobsters require Live Rock or similar aquarium decoration to use for hiding, especially when molting. Lobsters should be kept one-per-aquarium, because they are territorial and intolerant of one another. Reef Lobsters will get most of their food from scavenging in your tank, making them a good addition to your tanks clean up crew. If you wish to feed, lobsters are omnivores and require a diet of both meaty and green foods. Utilize meat of marine origin, including (but not limited to) fresh market fish, scallops, clams, oysters, shrimp, krill, and squid. Some vegetable matter is necessary, such as spirulina, nori (dried seaweed), fresh algae(s), and even dry fare such as sinking wafers or pellets. |
