Purple Lyretail Grouper, Variola louti

The Lyretail Grouper juvenile form shows a red dorsal, pale ventral, a dark patch running down its flanks covred in light blue spots. As this species matures the bodys base colour becomes a deep red with yellow fin tips keeping the covering of light blue spots.

A larger aquarium with plenty of live rock over hangs and caves is required due to its size, shy nature and feeding habits. They can be aggressive fish and may eat smaller tank mates as well as crustaceans, However they will not harm corals.

The Lyretail Grouper prefers a diet of meaty foods such as krill, shrimp, and other small fish.
