This hybrid between the Neon Dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabraensis) and the Springeri Dottyback (Pseudochromis springeri) makes an eye-catching addition for most marine aquariums with its striking appearance and vibrant personality.
The Neon Dottyback appears to exhibit a near perfect blend of phenotypical traits of its parents, sporting the distinct face bands of the Springeri Dottyback and the horizontal blue stripes that run along the dorsal length and fins of the Neon Dottyback.
At first glance, the Neon Dottyback appears to inherit the body color of the Springeri Dottyback but demonstrates a unique ability to alter coloration on its flanks from nearly jet black to a rust color, depending on mood and environment.
The ideal setup for the Neon Dottyback will be an established saltwater aquarium of at least 30 gallons in size aquascaped liberally with generous amounts of live rock. Create ample crevices and caves for the Neon Dottyback to explore, claim or seek refuge. Similar to other Dottyback species, it is recommended to house the Neon Dottyback singly unless the aquarium is very large.
The Neon Dottyback should be fed a varied diet consisting of foods specifically designed for carnivores. If kept in a reef aquarium, the Neon Dottyback should be fed once per day.
